The most we can ask of our poetry is that it be true during its time of writing •

I know people who will rewrite their poetry because they do not feel that it reflects who they have become later.

But I always advise against this — we do not keep most of our memories, and even the memories we do keep are tainted by new perspectives. For me, poetry is like a diary: it was true when it was written.

We can be sure that we will change in the future, but you do not want to forget the self who led up to the you you are today.

In keeping the integrity of your poetry, you can reflect on past experiences and thoughts and understand their connections to today's circumstances.

In the least, you get to appreciate who you have become and thank yourself for all of the hard work, as past work will make you aware of the journey.

At least, this is what I have experienced.
I hope this helps •
